MAKING YOUR OWN LAUNDRY STAIN REMOVERS
Nothing is cheaper or easier than making your own laundry stain removers from safer and more natural products. Store them on near your washer so they are ready for use.
Always label your spotters so that you know at a glance which one is for which thing.
GENERAL ALL-PURPOSE SPOTTER
Combine the following in a large spray bottle.
1 bottle of rubbing alcohol
2 of the alcohol bottles filled with water
Spray this on spots and spills, wait a few minutes and then launder as usual.
BEVERAGE, FRUIT AND GRASS SPOTTER
Combine equal portions of
White vinegar
Liquid dish soap
Water
Shake well and work the solution into the spot. Let stand a few minutes and then launder as usual.
NON-OILY STAIN REMOVER
Combine equal portions of the flowing ingredients:
Ammonia
Liquid dishwashing soap
Water
Shake well and work the solution into the spot. Let stand a few minutes and flush with water. This spotter works well on stains such as milk, blood, perspiration and urine. Not for washable silk, wool, spandex, acetate.
OILY STAIN REMOVER
Combine the following in a squirt bottle:
1 tablespoon glycerin
1 tablespoon liquid dishwashing soap
8 tablespoons of water

Queen of Clean Ring Around the Bowl

RING AROUND THE TOILET BOWL and MORE
I get so many questions about cleaning the toilet bowl, especially how to remove that awful ring that gets around it and seems impossible to remove. Here's everything and more than you wanted to know about toilet bowls.
TOILET BOWL RING
Shut off the water at the toilet tank and flush. Spray undiluted white vinegar around the inside of the toilet, then sprinkle with Twenty Mule Team Borax. Let soak about 15 minutes and the scrub with a piece of FINE drywall sandpaper (looks like window screen - available at hardware stores and home centers). Just cut a small piece of the sandpaper and toss when done. Once the ring is gone, simply turn the water back on and flush, swish and then flush again. If you have a very old ring you may need to repeat. Borax is in the laundry aisle with the additives.
An alternate method: Use Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser and the FINE drywall sandpaper and use the same method. as above.
DO NOT use the sandpaper on any other surface than the toilet.
TANG TUNE-UP
To keep your toilet clean and your dog happy, put several tablespoons of Tang Breakfast Drink (or a generic) in the toilet before you leave for work or at bedtime. Let it soak, use your toilet brush to swish around under the rim, and flush. The great thing about this is you don't have to worry if the kids get into the toilet bowl cleaner. Look for TANG at $$$ stores or discount stores to save money.
PLOP-PLOP-FIZZ-FIZZ CLEANING
Drop a couple of denterure-cleaning tablets into the toilet and let sit over night or for an hour or so. Brush under the rim with your bowl brush, swish and flush.
STUBBORN STAINS:
To clean stubborn stains from a toilet bowl, first shut off the water at the tank and flush the toilet to remove as much water as possible. Combine in a bucket:
1 Tablespoon of ammonia
1 Cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide (drug store variety)
1 1/2 quarts water.
Pour the solution in the toilet bowl and use a brush to apply it to the sides of the bowl. Let stand at least 30 minutes, then scrub the inside of the bowl with a scrub brush. Allow to remain in the toilet for up to several hours, brushing the solution on the sides of the bowl frequently. DO NOT use this with chlorine bleach or products that contains chlorine bleach. This solution cleans and disinfects.
RUST:
If you have rust in the toilet bowl, shut the water off at the toilet and flush. Sprinkle on Bar Keepers Friend or ZUD Cleanser. Let sit on the rust stains about 30 minutes and then rub with the toilet towl brush. Turn the water back on, swish and flush. Repeat if needed.

Queen of Clean talks Lemon

LEMONS
Today, some unusual ways to use lemons and lemon juice.
Deodorize your humidifer: When you smell that "dirty sock" smell pour 3 or 4 teaspoons lemon juice into the water. Not only will it remove the odor, it will replace it with a lemon fragrance. You can do this every couple of weeks.
Clean tarnished brass (not brass plated), copper or stainless steel. Make a paste of lemon juice and salt or baking soda. Cover the tarnished area and let sit for about 5 minutes. Rub gently, wash, rinse and dry. Use this in your stainless steel sink too.
Polish chrome faucets with lemon juice on a paper towel. Rinse and dry.
When boiling potatoes add a teaspoon of lemon to cooking water to prevent them from turning brownish. Works with cauliflower too.
Keep your rice from sticking together by adding a teaspoon or two of lemon juice to the water. It will keep it from becoming sticky.
Deodorize and clean your garbage disposal by dropping leftover lemon or orange peels into it and turning it on with a full stream of cold water.
Clean your cutting board and deodorize it after cutting onions or garlic by rubbing with the cut side of a lemon or with lemon juice.
Remove rust and mildew stains from clothes by rubbing with lemon juice and then laying in the sun to dry. Repeat as needed. Launder as usual. Do not use this on silks and delicate fabrics.
One last tip: To get the most juice from a lemon make sure it is at room temperature and roll it firmly on the kitchen counter before cutting it.

Cleaning shower ClassDoors

I don't know about you, but I have a love/hate relationship with my shower. Mine is a glass block shower, but glass shower doors are pretty much the same, great to look at until the soap scum and minerals form on it - and usually really hard to clean!
To really clean it, mix 50% Dawn Original or Ultra (it must be this, if you substitute it won't work) and 50% warm white vinegar in a spray or squeeze container. Apply to the doors and glass. Let sit 20 - 30 minutes and then rub with a gentle scrubbing sponge. Don't use anything too abrasive that will scratch. Rinse with COLD water, it helps avoid foaming, and dry. If needed repeat. Once the door is really clean and dry, apply RAIN-X, yes, the one used on car windshields. It will put a protective coating on the glass that will allow water to bead up and run off, eliminating the soap scum and spotting. Clean and reapply when the beading up of the water stops. To prolong the cleanliness, squeegee the glass or wipe with a microfiber cloth after each shower. Buy RAIN-X at auto supply stores and big box stores.

Queen of Clean Cleaning Your Bling

CLEANING YOUR BLING
General Directions: Before cleaning your jewelry examine it carefully to make sure that all settings, clasps and prongs are secure. Always clean jewelry in a dish rather than in the sink. It is so easy to lose small jewelry pieces down the drain. Rinse pieces well, unless otherwise indicated and dry well with a soft cloth and then allow to sit and air dry.
DIAMONDS
Put some warm water into a dish and soak for a few minutes. Drop the piece into a dish containing window cleaner, swish back and forth in the window cleaner and let soak for at least 30 minutes. Rinse well in warm water, again scrubbing with the toothbrush. Dry well. Yearly take diamond rings to a jeweler for cleaning and to check the prongs and setting.
RHINESTONES
Gently massage old fashion white toothpaste into the piece with your fingers. Scrub gently with a clean toothbrush. Rinse really well, using a toothbrush to get into all the recessed areas. Allow to dry on a soft cloth.
GOLD
Put a squeeze of dishwashing soap into a cup of warm water. Let the piece soak a few minutes to remove body oil and soil and then scrub with a clean toothbrush. Rinse well and buff with a soft cloth.
SILVER
Place a sheet of aluminum foil into a plastic bucket or container. Lay your silver jewelry on the foil and pour over enough hot water to cover the pieces well. Add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda and let stand for about 10 – 20 minutes. Rinse the pieces well and dry and buff with a soft cloth. This method is NOT for other types of jewelry.
NATURAL CLEANING GUIDE FOR GOLD, SILVER & COSTUME JEWELRY
Put jewelry into shallow bowl, and add water, along with one Alka-Seltzer tablet. Let this stand for 5 minutes. Rinse and wipe until dry.
Place straight white vinegar onto a soft cloth and wipe jewelry.
Grease and body oils can be removed by dipping jewelry into plain rubbing alcohol. Use an old toothbrush to help remove dirt in small places on each piece. Inexpensive vodka also works
