MAKING YOUR OWN FLY PAPER
Take a brown paper grocery
bag and cut it into 4 - 6 inch wide strips. Punch a hole in the top of the strip.
Thread a string or old ribbon through it. This is how you will hang the fly
paper.
In a sauce pan combine ¼
cup of honey, ¼ of sugar and ¼ of water. Heat the mixture until all the sugar
is dissolved and it is well combined.
You can either dip or brush
the mixture on the paper strips. Use care with the warm liquid. The papers will
need to hang to dry over a pad of newspapers to catch any drips. Allow them to
dry about 30 minutes or until they are not dripping.
Hang the homemade fly
papers anyplace you have a problem with flies. Near patio doors, garage doors,
in garages. Just remember that these flypapers will be incredibly sticky so
hang high enough that no one can bump into them or get their hair stuck in
them.
These are great for camping
too whether you camp in an RV or a tent.
Toss the papers when needed
and replace.
Here are two formulas for
roaches.
Both of these baits call
for the roach to ingest and get it on it's body and take it back to the nest to
the other roaches.
Boric Acid is a great roach
killer and frequently used. Buy it at the drug store. To make the homemade
roach killer mix 3 teaspoons of Boric Acid with the same amount of sugar and
water to form a paste. Put the paste in areas where roaches are normally found
and sprinkle it around infested areas of your home. These areas they are
typically found are under cupboards, alongside the refrigerator and stove,
under the stove and around kitchen sinks.
This is a second roach
killer. It works similar to the Boric Acid by dehydrated them to death. Mix
equal amounts of baking soda, sugar and water. Place it in the same areas that
I mentioned about. It will stick to their feet and they will take it back to
the nest.
Keep out of reach of the
kids and pets. For a heavy infestation I think the Boric Acid works best. It
will eliminate roaches in about 2 weeks.
To kill ants mix a
combination of 50% Twenty Mule Team Borax (laundry aisle at the grocery store)
and 50% confectioners sugar. Place this on a cardboard or board near the ant
hill. The ants are attracted by the sugar and carry the fatal borax/sugar
combination back to the nest to feed the queen and the other ants. Soon all the
ants are dead. If you have ants in the house and have kids and pets don't leave
this mixture sitting out. Instead, take a small box, such as one that jewelry
comes in, and punch some small holes in the side near the bottom of the box.
Put some of the borax/sugar mixture in the box and tape it shut tightly. I use
packing tape. Sit it under cabinets and in out of the way areas where you see
ants. Pets and kids will not get into the mixture but the ants can enter and
exit through the small holes.
