Queen of Clean using car wax

Here's a copy of the information I gave you in my TV segment this morning.

Great Uses for Car Wax

A good quality car wax can be used for lots of things around the house. Applying a quick coat of wax can make cleaning a breeze. Here are some rules to follow:

• Apply on surfaces between 55 and 85 degrees out of direct sunlight
• Apply the wax to a soft cotton damp cloth and then apply to the surface
• Remove with a clean soft cloth
• Wax should be reapplied when water beading diminishes.

PLACES YOU CAN USE WAX IN THE HOME:

BATHROOM:

• Apply to the sink, shower surround (fiberglass and faux marble) glass shower doors. DO NOT apply to shower or tub floors it will make them super slippery.
• Apply to chrome and metal surfaces in the bath to protect and make cleaning easier
• Make sure surfaces are clean and dry when you apply the wax and rub on a small amount. Once it dries to a haze you can buff it off.

METAL SURFACES

Apply to stainless steel, porcelain or any sink to keep clean. Apply to the outside of the grill to make it easier to clean. Be sure not to do in hot sun. This will protect from fingerprints, oxidations rust and the elements.

PATIO FURNITURE:

Apply to metal, plastic or molded furniture to protect and add shine.

KITCHEN:

If you have laminate countertops like Formica® apply the car wax in a thin coat and buff when dry. It will protect the counter from stains and make it easier to clean.

OTHER USES:
Kid’s bikes, toys, skate boards to protect and make cleaning easier.

Sara sent me a question hoping I can give her the recipe for treated dust cloths. Treated dust cloths are an awesome way to dust without building up spray polish which will get smeary and attract dirt. Use your favorite all- purpose cleaner or dish soap to make up a bucket of sudsy water. Use about a gallon of water and about 4 or 5 good squirts of product. Add a couple of tablespoons of turpentine. Toss in some clean cotton dust cloths, or washcloths and stir so that they are saturated. Let them soak eight to 10 hours, then wring them out and allow them to air dry. Do not put in the dryer. Once they are dry, store in a covered container – an old coffee can works – and they are ready to use. You can also mix 2 cups of hot water with a cup of lemon oil. Dip lint less cloths into the solution. Squeeze thoroughly and air dry. Use these to dust without using furniture polish. They are like using a spray dust product.

Got Fly's, Roache's or Ants

MAKING YOUR OWN FLY PAPER

Take a brown paper grocery bag and cut it into 4 - 6 inch wide strips. Punch a hole in the top of the strip. Thread a string or old ribbon through it. This is how you will hang the fly paper.

In a sauce pan combine ¼ cup of honey, ¼ of sugar and ¼ of water. Heat the mixture until all the sugar is dissolved and it is well combined.

You can either dip or brush the mixture on the paper strips. Use care with the warm liquid. The papers will need to hang to dry over a pad of newspapers to catch any drips. Allow them to dry about 30 minutes or until they are not dripping.

Hang the homemade fly papers anyplace you have a problem with flies. Near patio doors, garage doors, in garages. Just remember that these flypapers will be incredibly sticky so hang high enough that no one can bump into them or get their hair stuck in them.

These are great for camping too whether you camp in an RV or a tent.

Toss the papers when needed and replace.

Got Roaches

Here are two formulas for roaches.

Both of these baits call for the roach to ingest and get it on it's body and take it back to the nest to the other roaches.

Boric Acid is a great roach killer and frequently used. Buy it at the drug store. To make the homemade roach killer mix 3 teaspoons of Boric Acid with the same amount of sugar and water to form a paste. Put the paste in areas where roaches are normally found and sprinkle it around infested areas of your home. These areas they are typically found are under cupboards, alongside the refrigerator and stove, under the stove and around kitchen sinks.

This is a second roach killer. It works similar to the Boric Acid by dehydrated them to death. Mix equal amounts of baking soda, sugar and water. Place it in the same areas that I mentioned about. It will stick to their feet and they will take it back to the nest.

Keep out of reach of the kids and pets. For a heavy infestation I think the Boric Acid works best. It will eliminate roaches in about 2 weeks.

GOT ANTS??

To kill ants mix a combination of 50% Twenty Mule Team Borax (laundry aisle at the grocery store) and 50% confectioners sugar. Place this on a cardboard or board near the ant hill. The ants are attracted by the sugar and carry the fatal borax/sugar combination back to the nest to feed the queen and the other ants. Soon all the ants are dead. If you have ants in the house and have kids and pets don't leave this mixture sitting out. Instead, take a small box, such as one that jewelry comes in, and punch some small holes in the side near the bottom of the box. Put some of the borax/sugar mixture in the box and tape it shut tightly. I use packing tape. Sit it under cabinets and in out of the way areas where you see ants. Pets and kids will not get into the mixture but the ants can enter and exit through the small holes.

It's that time again...want to keep your strawberries fresh longer?

To keep the strawberries fresh longer in the refrigerator, use 1 Part White Vinegar to 10 Parts Water. Soak the strawberries, leaves and all in the vinegar/water mixture for a few minutes. Then drain the strawberries in a colander until they are completely dry.

Then place strawberries in an uncovered bowl in the refrigerator. The vinegar/water mixture kills any mold spores on the strawberries and keeps them fresh longer. The vinegar does not affect the taste. This also works for all kinds of berries: blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc. Poster says It really works!!

Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork in the Slow Cooker

2 1/2-3 lb pork butt (also known as a pork shoulder)
24 oz. (2 cans) Dr. Pepper
1 medium onion, cut in quarters and then again in half
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons dry ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Salt and black pepper to taste
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
Barbecue Sauce of choice

Place the chopped onions in the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the pork butt on top of the onions and add the garlic, ground mustard, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the Dr. Pepper on top and cook on high for 4-5 hours (or on low for 8 hours).

Very carefully, because the pork will be hot, remove the meat from the slow cooker and place on a large cutting board. Using two forks, shred the pork by pulling away from each other. The meat should be very tender by this point. Place the shredded pork back into the slow cooker and continue to cook for an additional hour.

Drain the remaining juices and toss the meat and onion mixture in the barbecue sauce of choice. I don't have an exact amount listed-just add a bit at a time until you get to your desired sauciness!
